Hinterbrühl Lake Cave
A hidden wonder of Austria is the Hinterbrühl Lake Cave, located 15 km north of Baden. The cave was originally a gypsum mine. A blast caused a flood, resulting in the formation of Europe’s largest underground lake.
It began as a tourist mine. During the war, it was used as a concentration camp, as a tunnel for an aircraft factory, and as a hiding place for cultural artifacts.
We glide through the luminous turquoise water in a small boat, surrounded by surreal rock formations and reflections that make every photo look like a cinematic masterpiece.
The temperature in the tourist mine remains a constant 9°C year-round. Please be sure to wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes (no sandals, pumps, flip-flops, or similar footwear). Visitors will experience mild physical exertion during the tour and while descending the stairs to the lake.
Duration: approx. 50 minutes.
